Peel Police Recovered 3 Live World War II Explosives Near Pearson Airport On Monday
Businesses had to be evacuated.
Peel Police say an evacuation near Pearson airport on Monday, July 20 was held after they recovered three Second World War-era devices which were discovered to actually be live explosives.
The explosives had been brought into a fire station at Airport Road on Monday by a man who was looking to dispose of them.
Upon inspection, police reportedly found that the objects were actually live explosives. As a result, they cleared out three businesses near YYZ.
Police initially closed nearby roads at around 4 p.m. before the Explosive Disposal Unit retrieved the devices.
Thankfully, there were no injuries as a result of the incident, although it presumably caused some panic at first. Police confirmed there was no criminal intent behind the explosives being brought in.
