Toronto tenants in particular have been organizing within their communities and holding demonstrations in an effort to stop evictions. While the city did have an eviction moratorium in place for much of the spring, it was lifted in late July and evictions resumed. Many announcements were made by the premier on Tuesday. Ontario's state of emergency has been reinstated, a stay-at-home order was issued, and public health measures were increased. The measures come into effect on Thursday, January 14 at 12:01 a.m., and the premier says that it has never been more important for everyone to stay home and save lives.
