Peel District School Board is the most recent adopter of this initiative. It is aiming to add "inclusive" washrooms to every one of its high schools in the Peel region this fall.
Tony Pontes, the director of the Peel board, made the announcement yesterday (Aug 31) and stated that their job was not "to ask why someone self-identifies," but instead to "make sure they have a place of safety."
Other public school boards have already implemented gender-neutral washrooms in their schools. The York District School Board is in the progress of adding them to all of their elementary and secondary schools, while all institutions of the Durham District School Board should already have at least one.
