Where's What You Need To Know About Toronto’s New $1.2B Finch West LRT Line
Everything you need to know about the Finch LRT so far.
After over a year time and research going into picking a project proposal for the Finch West Light Rail Transit project in northwest Toronto, Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have finally settled on a plan and a team to build the line.
The 11-kilometre light rail project will be done by the Mosaic Transit Group, who won the bid for the transit expansion. The group is made up of 3 different companies Aecon, ACS and CRH which will all hold an equal 33% stake during the project's construction phase. Then Aecon and ACS will split the 30-year maintenance agreement 50/ 50 after that.
The $1.2 billion dollar project will see the extension of the subway line starting at Finch West then going all the way to Humber College with 16 above ground stops, 1 underground station and a terminal created in between. the Mosaic Transit Group will also be responsible for creating a maintenance and storage facility for the line’s light rail cars.
As it stands, the Finch 36 TTC bus is already the second busiest bus route in the city, making this new light rail transit system a necessary expansion. A fringe benefit from the new transit initiative is that the Finch West LRT will come with prioritized local jobs and opportunities for those in the GTA.
More information on the construction timeline and in depth cost breakdowns are on the way from the province. However initial plans schedule construction to wrap up by 2021.
