The OPP is asking drivers to slow down in the snow after a highway 401 accident shut down all eastbound express lanes at Meadowvale Rd. on Sunday night. The collision involved an SUV and a lumber transport truck, and one person was taken to hospital.

The accident happened late last night when the SUV was attempting to exit towards the collector lanes, according to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

The vehicle lost control and hit the crash cushion in the lane. It then crashed into the lumber truck, which also lost control and tumbled onto its side.

The collision created a huge mess as the lumber spilled onto the lanes of the highway.

It reportedly took all night to clean up, and the lanes were not reopened until this morning, January 6, at around 6:30 a.m.

Both drivers have been charged with careless driving, 680 News reports.

The driver of the truck has suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries, while the driver of the SUV walked away without injuries.

All lanes are now clear and traffic has resumed in that area.

Some of the footage of the crash as well as the cleanup can be seen in a video Sgt. Kerry Schmidt posted to Twitter.

As you can see, it took a whole crew to get everything back on track.

Nobody was hurt, but the lumber mess had that section of the highway out of commission all night.

CP24 reports that this wasn't the only accident reported. There were several collisions on the roads last night due to the slippery weather conditions.

There was also a three-car collision in Brampton.

Police were called to Cottrelle Boulevard and Thorndale Road after a vehicle crashed into a traffic light, and two other vehicles followed suit and hit the first one.

Peel Police took the time to relay a safety message after arriving on the scene.

"I just wanted to remind drivers to slow down, take your time, do not tailgate, keep a big following distance between you and the vehicles in front of you," said Const. Sarah Patten.

Roads have been dangerous this winter with all the harsh weather. Just a few weeks ago, there was a massive 20-car pile-up on highway 400

This morning, it is looking like there will be harsh driving conditions as well because of the weather, so stay alert and drive slow.
