John Tory Just Revealed His Raptors Final Bet Against Oakland's Mayor And You Can Help Him Win It
The team with the most donations by the end of the finals wins!
With the NBA finals kicking off between the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors tonight, things are starting to get competitive, both on and off the court. Showing his competitive side and support for his hometown team, Major John Tory has announced that he is kicking off an NBA finals 'Charity Challenge' where he is hoping Toronto will not only beat the Warriors in the finals but also in donations.
Right before Game 1 of the finals, Tory has taken to Twitter to announce to both Raptors and Warrior fans that the challenge is on. Tory announced only hours ago that himself and the Oakland mayor have agreed that the NBA finals are a great way to see which city is not only the most enthusiastic but also the most charitable.
Here's how the challenge works. Both mayors as asking fans to donate to local charities, the 'team' that has the most donations by the end of the finals win! All Raptors fans are able to donate to SickKids Foundation throughout the NBA finals, while all Warrior fans will be able to donate to either the Alameda Country Community Food Bank and the San Franciso-Marin Food Bank.
Raptors fans are able to donate to Sick Kids here to show their support to not only the Raptors but also to the Sick Kids Foundation.
Sick Kids has already reached out about the challenge, thanking the Raptor fans for their support and also cheering on the Toronto team.
This isn't the only bet that Mayor John Tory has made with the Oakland mayor amidst these finals. If the Golden State Warriors win their third straight title, Tory has stated that he will directly send the Oakland mayor a case of Henderson beer, a peameal bacon sandwich from St. Lawerence Market, some Toronto merch from Spacing and of course, a cup of Tim Horton's coffee.
However, Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf states that if the Raptors win the finals, Tory can also expect to receive some goodies. Schaaf will send him some coffee from Red Bay Coffee, beer from old Kan Beer & Co. and some BBQ sauce from Everett and Jones BBQ.
Game 1 against the Golden State Warriors will tip off at 9 PM ET in Toronto tonight, meaning the Raptors have home court advantage for the start of the season.
Let's go Raptors!
