Yesterday Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reshuffled the members of his cabinet and created some whole new positions. One of those positions is the new minister of border security and organized crime reduction, now held by former Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair. This is likely to put Blair at odds with the new Ontario premier Doug Ford, and the two of them already have a rocky history. @justinpjtrudeauembedded via It all goes back to the infamous Rob Ford crack smoking scandal. Rob was Doug’s older brother and mayor of Toronto at the time. Bill Blair was Toronto’s chief of police when reports began to come out that there was a video of Rob Ford smoking crack. @dishnationembedded via Obviously, police began to investigate the claims made in the media about the video, this investigation was done under Blair’s watch. When it turned out to be true that Rob Ford had indeed smoked crack while mayor of the city, Doug Ford was incredibly angry at Blair for his role in the investigation into his brother, particularly that Blair allowed the video to be released to the public. And he’s still reportedly very mad at him. This may create some serious tension between Ontario’s leader and the federal government. Ford has repeatedly spoken out about Trudeau’s governments' position on people crossing the border illegally. @fordnationdougfordembedded via And as the newly appointed minister of border security and organized crime reduction, Blair now oversees that. So don't be surprised if there's a serious clash between the two before the next federal election next year. Source: CTV
