If you were planning a road trip to Ontario's own Caribbean-like lake then pump the brakes. Little Bluff Conservation Area is closed until further notice. The move comes after too many people flocked to the beach in Prince Edward County.

The closure went into effect on Friday, July 31, just in time for the Civic Holiday long weekend.

According to Quinte Conservation's website, this decision will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis starting on August 14.

They said that the closure comes after too many people flocked to the area recently, making it unsafe. Specifically, the parking was a situation.

The conservation area had limited its parking facilities last week but this didn't deter people, who ended up parking on the roads nearby.

"After multiple reports regarding the safety of other drivers trying to pass parked vehicles on the narrow road, Quinte Conservation has made the difficult decision to completely close the area until further notice," they said on their website.

Now any activity or use of the Little Bluff area is off-limits and people caught violating the closure could be fined.

This isn't the first time people in the region have expressed concerns about visitors coming, especially those from out of town.

In a video on July 29, Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson asked people not to come for the long weekend.

"This is not the weekend to visit the county on a whim," he said, explaining that all their accommodations are already booked up.

He also revealed that local beaches have had to close within hours of opening due to crowding and the turned away vehicles create gridlock on the roads.

"This is not the experience we want you to have," he said.

All hope is not lost for visiting the county though.

"We guarantee you'll have a better time with us if you plan a mid-week visit, a visit later in the season or fall, or better yet, plan an overnight stay in the coming months so you can visit beyond the beach," Mayor Ferguson explained.
