Another Toronto Bar Is In Hot Water After A Chaotic Party This Weekend (VIDEO)
MARBL will be investigated by the AGCO, said Mayor Tory.
Another weekend party, another 6ix bar in trouble. John Tory was asked on Monday, July 13 about a patio party caught on film atover the weekend. The mayor confirmed that the Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) of Ontario is investigating the incident.
On Saturday, July 11, a video surfaced on social media of an apparent birthday party taking place on the patio of a Toronto bar, apparently MARBL on King Street.
That footage, shared by Canadian Press reporter Jake Kivanc on Twitter on Saturday, shows dozens of patrons ignoring social distancing measures and grouping around tables.
There doesn't appear to be a single mask or face covering in sight.
On Monday, Tory was asked about the footage in the context of Ontario announcing that bars in stage-three-designated areas can reopen indoor areas from this Friday with safety measures in place.
Those reopenings don't apply to Toronto, but Tory was quick to make his disapproval known.
"I think right now the matter in question in the video that was widely circulated is the matter of an investigation by a number of bodies including the AGCO and licensing authorities," Tory said at his daily media briefing on Monday.
He noted that the scene at MARBL, which he later confirmed was the bar he was referring to, was "inconsistent" with health advice.
Tory later confirmed that AGCO is investigating MARBL over the video.
When Toronto officially reopened its patios on June 24, MARBL was one of the bars where.
And Tory added on Monday he's concerned about bars reopening in general in and around the city as stage three progresses.
"I have a particularly serious concern with respect to bars," he said.
"We've seen elsewhere in Montreal and some of the cities south of the border that these have proven to be places where the virus spread can be encouraged or enhanced by crowd scenes developing."
One bar in the 6ix, Goldie, actually decided to recently throw a secret indoor party since they didn't have a patio to reopen,
As a result, the bar officiallydue to the lack of following health guidelines in place.
Shock and disappointment apparently struck many fans of the place who decided towith words of encouragement and support.
Judging by what happened at MARBL this weekend, it seems the lessons weren't learned.
