2 GTA Homes Are Destroyed After An Impaired Driver Smashed Through Them (PHOTOS)
The driver was the only one injured.
York Regional Police had their hands full on Thursday afternoon after receiving a 911 call about a drunk driver. After fleeing from the police, the driver was later found after he smashed into two neighbourhood homes. The Markham car crash caused significant damage to both houses.
According to a press release from the York Regional Police, an officer had been following the suspected impaired driver after someone reported him to 911.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which was on the Ninth Line in the area of Bur Oak Avenue.
However, the 47-year-old driver sped away and the officer did not consider it safe to engage in a high-speed chase in the community.
"The officer stopped following the vehicle as not to further endanger our community as the driver fled at a high rate of speed and was not obeying traffic signals," says the statement.
Later that afternoon, officers located the vehicle, which had crashed into two homes on Major Button Drive and caused significant damage.
From the photos that were posted on social media, it appears that the car had barreled through the bricks in someone's garage before crashing into the side of the neighbouring garage.
According to the press release, a building investigator for the City of Markham has deemed both houses unsafe to stay in at the moment.
The driver is suffering from non-life-threatening injuries and has been taken to the hospital.
The 47-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and flight from police.
There have been no reports that anyone in the two homes was injured.
However, this isn't the only impaired driving incident in Ontario recently.
Only a few weeks ago, two Ontario men were foundwhile it was sitting in live traffic.
has also become an issue over the past few months as more drivers continue to take advantage of the empty roads.
