What do you get when you cross a mayor who’s good with kids and Halloween? You get a pretty darn wholesome press event. Mayor John Tory went all out for October 31 this year, dressing up as a Star Trek character while getting one-on-one with a few adorably costumed kids outside his office. Tory did what any good Starfleet admiral would do, he lectured his little crew on the importance of Halloween safety, which of course, garnered some pretty hilarious reaction from his young recruits.

In a brief video of the interaction, Tory can be seen asking the kids what they should do after they’re done eating their candy. One child immediately shouts out, “brush your teeth,” to which Tory responded, “Right! Otherwise, you’ll have to go to often to the dentist.”

Tory later explained on Twitter his reasoning for dressing up as a Star Trek character, and it was actually due to its Canadian roots. “Dressed up as an Admiral from StarTrek: Discovery today to highlight our incredible film sector – a sector that I want to make sure lives long and prospers here in Toronto.”

“Filmed at PinewoodStudios in Toronto, I want to thank StarTrek: Discovery and its great production team for helping me with today's costume. This is a testament to the talent of this industry & the people we have working in front of and behind the camera,” he added.

The costume was well-received by both the show’s actors and Torontonians alike. One user even stating, "Nice going Admiral. Great costume."

Tory later admitted during an interview with 680 News that he had tried out a few other costume ideas, including Spider-Man, which the mayor claimed didn’t fit him well and Peppa Pig before settling on the Star Trek idea.

However, the fun costume doesn't come as much of a surprise. The Mayor is often known for his outgoing personality. Tory grabbed headlines back in June after he jumped into a pool fully clothed.
