If you've ever ventured into the TTC subway, you may have met some unforgettable characters along the way. But this is something a little different. The annual No Pants Subway Ride Toronto is coming back to the 6ix in January and everyone is welcome to join in on the fun. So, if you happen to see some random people completely pantless, you'll know why.

On January 12, brace yourself as a group of Torontonians will take part in roaming the street and the subway stations without outer clothing on their lower half.

The No Pants Subway ride is actually part of a global scheme that was founded by a group called Improv Everywhere around two decades ago.

The annual event grew from what started as a small prank with seven guys into an international event.

"The idea behind No Pants is simple: Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants," reads the No Pants Subway Ride website.

"The participants behave as if they do not know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants."

According to the event page, the No Pants Subway Ride's goal is to simply celebrate silliness, while bringing a smile to everyone's faces.

For those who want to participate in the event in the city, it's free to join. All you have to do, obviously, is "forget" your pants.

There will also be a No Pants afterparty, which sounds a bit cheeky. There, you can dance your socks off and win prizes for some awesome pants.

January's event will be the 19th global annual edition of the initiative, which began in New York. It has since garnered worldwide attention, with many international cities doing their own event.

Host cities in North America now also include the likes of Boston, Calgary, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Montreal, and Washington DC. Rides also take place across Europe.

This year, the Toronto plan is simple.

Participators will meet at the upstairs Eaton Centre's Dundas Street entrance at around 3 p.m. and depart 20 minutes later.

From there, it's a "Pantsless Parade" from Osgoode Station to the afterparty, which is slated to start at 4 p.m.

So, at least you won't be out in the cold for long.

Whether you're taking part or not, make sure you prepare yourself for this one.
