Canada's largest and most comprehensive art university is getting a major facelift to one of it's most historic buildings, and we can't wait to see how the redesign will look. This week, Toronto MP Adam Vaughan announced that the university has received a $1 million grant from the Government of Canada toward a $3 million renovation and refurbishment project of the campus' OG building, the George Reid House. The George Reid House has a pretty cool history. Built in 1921, and named after the school's then-principal and professional artist, the house was created to educate professional designers and artists at what was then known as the OCA (Ontario College of Art). This much-needed facelift is going to modernize the building's interior facilities, meaning that the quaint and historic exterior will be preserved, maintaining the current aesthetic of the OCAD campus. New features will include event and meeting spaces for students, as well as a restoration of the west-side portico. And as part of OCAD's continued commitment to Indigenous Learning, art of the project will include a public land acknowledgement that recognizes the heritage of the ancestral land that the George Reid House occupies. Renovations are set to start soon and we're eager to see how the artists and designers of this unreal campus will put their artistic touch on this new campus feature. Source: CBC, Urban Toronto
