York Regional Police had their fair share of action on Thursday morning after they discovered an unmoving car sitting in live traffic. Once on scene, police found that an Ontario impaired driver and passenger were both passed out behind the wheel. Both men were arrested and guns and drugs were found in the vehicle.
According to the news release from York Regional Police, officers were in the area at around 1:45 a.m. on Thursday morning when they spotted a car stopped at an intersection near Islington Avenue and Highway 7 in Vaughan.
When officers approached the car to see why it was stopped in a live lane of traffic, they noticed that two men were asleep in the vehicle and that the car was still running.
After police managed to wake up the driver and passenger, they discovered that each man had a loaded gun. Officers also found drugs as well as cash in the car, which led to drug trafficking charges on top of the firearms and impaired driving charges.
The occupants of the car are both 21-year-olds. One is from the city of Brampton and the other is from the city of Toronto.
"Two loaded guns as well as a loaded driver and passenger removed from our streets after impaired driver and passenger found passed out in the intersection of Hwy7/Islington, Vaughan," YRP tweeted Thursday morning.
There are a total of 14 charges being laid between the two of them.
These include careless storage of a firearm, impaired operation and possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, among others.
