Since Ontario's Stage 2 restrictions could be on the way for Halton, the region's mayors have sent a letter to Doug Ford basically begging to not move the entire region back.

The mayors of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville signed their names to a letter and sent it to the premier that asked him to look at a targeted approach.

Instead of closures across the entire region, they want restrictions to be placed on specific sectors that are experiencing higher infection rates.

Halton Region mayors

All of the mayors said that doing a blanket approach "unfairly punishes small businesses with no explanation" and that would hurt the local economy.

The letter claims that the majority of businesses in Halton Region have been following public health recommendations.

"They should not be punished under a blanket shutdown order," the mayors said.

Ontario has already put Toronto, Ottawa, Peel and York into a modified Stage 2 because of the COVID-19 rates in those places.
