Jagmeet Singh Just Grilled Pharrell On His Plans To Design A Condo In Toronto
Singh also called out Justin Trudeau regarding the "affordable housing crisis."
It was revealed yesterday that hip-hop producer, singer and fashion mogul Pharrell Williams would be bringing his talents to Toronto in 2020, to design a brand-new condo complex in the city. While ads for the complex only started popping up on Tuesday morning, Pharrell’s new Toronto condos have already drawn some subtle scepticism from NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh.
On Tuesday morning, Toronto commuters were greeted with a huge video ad from Pharrell Williams, projected high above Yonge-Dundas Square. The clip explained that Pharrell would be helping to design a new two-tower condo complex in Yonge and Eglinton, which will contain 750 units of one-, two- and three-bedroom units.
As part of the edgy video ad, Pharrell explained to Torontonians, “Where you live defies labels. Space is only a backdrop. The experience is you. Live your life untitled."
Not even 24 hours after Pharrell made the announcement that he’d be involved in designing the condos, NDP leader anddecided to grill him on the new properties.
In a tweet on Tuesday evening, Jagmeet Singh tagged Pharrell Williams to ask, “Hey Pharrell, any affordable housing planned in this?” The NDP leader continued, “Asking for working-class people who can't afford rent in 91% of Canadian cities.”
Singh went on to joke, “Clap along if you feel like man dem without a roof,” making reference to the lyrics from Pharrell’s hugely famous song, “Happy.”
This isn’t the first time that Singh has used social media to draw attention to Canada’s “affordable housing crisis.” Tagging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a separate tweet on Tuesday, Singh asked, “Question for PM Justin Trudeau: When will you realize this is a crisis?”
Singh went on, “It’s becoming impossible to afford to live in our cities. Work with us to deliver for Canadians facing this crisis. We need to help people get into more affordable housing.”
While Pharrell is yet to respond to Jagmeet Singh’s Twitter question, the NDP leader is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to calling out those he feels are involved in Canada’s housing crisis.
That said, with Singh calling him out just hours after he announced his collaboration with Toronto's Reserve Properties and Westdale Properties, Pharrell’s probably not feeling too “happy” about the situation!
