Last night at 11:55 PM, police were called to the scene of a shooting outside of a high school in Malvern, a northeast Toronto neighbourhood. Police have identified the lone victim who was tragically killed as 21-year-old Venojan "Veno" Suthesan.

Family members say that Suthesan was on his way to the gym after work when he was gunned down outside of Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute. Suthesan was a straight-A student in the accounting program at York University's Schulich School of Business.

Suthesan's family is shocked and heartbroken at the news. They say that Suthesan was "always positive" and a "go-getter" who's never gotten into trouble.

Suthesan had been a server for five years at the Pickle Barrel near Leslie St. and Finch Ave. In tears, his manager May Canal told the media that "he is the last person in the world that would have ever deserved this."

"He was so caring and so kind. It just breaks my heart to see such an innocent, kind person go away just like that," Canal said, "He worked during weekends and weeknights to help support himself and his family so he could take care of them and get a better education to have a better life."

At the time of the shooting, Suthesan was crossing the high school grounds to get to his gym across the street. His home where he lived with his family was just a short walk away.
