It looks like Toronto is not able to get a break from the winter weather anytime soon. What new crazy weather is in store for Toronto this upcoming week? Freezing rain. Environment Canada has issued a special weather warning that almost all of Southern Ontario, including Toronto, is expected to be hit with freezing rain this week.

Brace yourselves Toronto because Environment Canada says that the freezing rain is expected to start Wednesday night on February 20, and last until Thursday morning. Toronto is also under an extreme cold weather warning today on February 18, which was issued from Environment Canada's Medical Officer of Health. In other words, you can expect to find us warming up under a blanket indoors and watching Netflix.

"A low pressure system from Texas will track towards the Great Lakes on Wednesday," reads the weather warning from Environment Canada. "Precipitation associated with this system will begin as snow Wednesday evening for most parts of the Golden Horseshoe and Central Ontario, but will quickly change over to freezing rain and then to rain overnight."

Not only is there forecasted to be freezing rain, but even snowfall in parts of Ontario. "The same series of precipitations is expected a few hours later over Eastern parts of the province," reads the weather alert from Environment Canada.

"However, eastern regions may see 5 to 10 centimetres of snow and ice pellets before the changeover to freezing rain early Thursday morning."

Environment Canada is also warning about dangerous conditions on the streets and roads due to the freezing rain and snowfall. "Untreated surfaces, such as roads, walkways and parking lots, could become icy, slippery and dangerous," reads the weather alert

This weather warning is in effect for almost all of Southern Ontario, as you can see from the grey areas on the map above from Environment Canada. Regions such as Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, London, Barrie, Niagara, Muskoka, Waterloo and more will all be affected. 

On top of the freezing rain, the GTA is also expected to be hit with snow and strong winds this week.
