The Toronto Maple Leafs Just Announced They're Losing Their Star Player For At Least A Month And Fans Are Devastated
Auston Matthews is being benched.

The Toronto Maple Leafs just devastated fans by announcing this morning that their star player and assistant captain Auston Matthews would be benched for at least a month.
The news comes after Matthew's took a nasty hit to the shoulder in this weekend's game, putting him on the injury reserve list for at least four weeks, which amounts to around 14 games.
This is a big hit for the team since Matthews is a forward and he scores a lot of goals for the team per game. So far this season he has a total of 10 goals and has only played 11 games. That's why it's understandable that fans are devastated.
On Twitter, they are reacting to the news and along with the tragic GIFs, people are genuinely crushed. Even non-leaf fans are expressing their sympathy since they realize what a big hit this is to Toronto and the fans.

The news is also prompting fans to question whether this could push things along with William Nylander, another forward on the team last year who currently is in contract negotiations with the Leafs.
The hope is that with Matthews being injured and the Nylander being available to replace him, this will be an extra incentive to speed up the contract dispute. But, the Leafs have not confirmed whether this is the case.
This is the second time Matthews has been out on a shoulder injury. Last season, in March of this year, he was out for almost three weeks in response to a different shoulder issue.
While the Leafs have announced that he will be out for at least a month, fans will be anxiously waiting to see when exactly their star will get back on the ice.
