The Toronto Open Doors Festival Will Change The Way You Look At The City
Look behind the city's closed doors.

Ever wonder what lies behind the doors of some of the most spectacular buildings in Toronto? For the 16th year in a row, the city is allowing you to poke your nose into all things architecture. The Toronto Open Doors festival will be held from May 23rd to 24th, with over 55 new buildings participating this year! A grand total of 155 buildings will be opening their doors, to make you feel like an urban Dora the Explorer.
Here's a list of some of the more notable buildings making this years list:
1. Amsterdam Brewery
Did somebody say free beer? Sample some of the cities best beers while touring around the brewery.
2. Archives of Ontario
Ever wonder where Ontario stores it's archives? Where they keep old photos and documents that reflect the past? Not very often can you just see the giant vaults and lab that keeps our history protected and preserved for years to come. Hey, maybe one day a photo of you will be in that vault!
3. BMO Field
See parts of the field that you won’t see when you buy a TFC ticket and get a glimpse at the new 30,000 seat expansion they added on for the Pan Am games.
4. Campbell House Museum
How many times have you walked by this place on Queen West and wondered what it was? Now you can take a tour through this home built in 1822 and find out what really lies behind the doors of this place that’s smack-dab in the middle of the downtown hustle and bustle.
5. Canadian Film Centre
This is the first time they’re opening the doors to the public in more than 5 years. Aren’t you a tad bit curious on what they’ve been hiding in this gorgeous estate?
6. High Park Greenhouses
Spring has sprung, and nothing makes a Torontonian happier than the beautiful colours and smells of a new season. There’s no better place to enjoy spring than High Park and their greenhouses that are lined with thousands of multi coloured plants.
7. Toronto Police Marine Unit
Learn from those that protect the dangerous waters of Lake Ontario. It takes a brave soul to set sail on those waters, and now is your chance to see the flashy pirate ships… I mean boats they ride to keep the waters safe.
8. TTC-Greenwood Complex
Tour the place where the TTC gets fixed, and given makeovers. Maybe you’ll have a new appreciation for how much work is put into the TTC and keeping our city moving.
9. University of Toronto Green Roof Innovation Testing Lab
Get up on the roof with U of T to learn from researchers about green roof and green wall testing and how it’ll make our city a better (and cleaner) place.
10. Pure Spirits Still House
Get a glimpse inside the real Distillery District. Visitors will get to learn about the distilling process, and even witness the barrel making process. How on earth do they really make those things anyway?
