Travelling from Toronto to Montreal is about to get a whole lot quicker, thanks to Hyperloop One, the company building the first hyperloop high-speed travel system. After reviewing all possible major cities, Toronto and Montreal have been chosen as one of the top contenders to home the high-speed transportation system. If the system is built, the following routes would be available: Toronto to Montreal (640 km) in 39 minutes Toronto to Ottawa (450 km) in 27 minutes Ottawa to Montreal (190 km) in 12 minutes Hyperloop works by loading passengers or cargo into the Hyperloop pod, which is accelerated gradually via electric propulsion through a low-pressure tube. The vehicle quickly lifts above the track using magnetic levitation and glides at airline speeds for long distances due to ultra-low aerodynamic drag. The Canadian team, Hypercan, won the global challenge to have Hyperloop One engineers visit the view the Toronto/Montreal route to assess its viability. If it materializes, the normal five hour, 640-kilometre trip could shrink to just 39 minutes with the new technology. Of course, this won't happen over night, if everything goes as planned, the train would still be decades away. But it's still an exciting advancement to think about!
