This Is Why The Toronto Harbour Might Actually Be Dangerous
During the summer months, the Toronto Harbour is packed with kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes. While it definitely looks picturesque, a recent study has unveiled some pretty gross facts about the water.
According to Lake Ontario Waterkeepers, the Toronto Harbour regularly contains E. coli bacteria "well beyond public safety standards."
Within the past few weeks, the Toronto Star reported that those levels are even higher - 30x beyond the federal guidelines for boating and 300x beyond provincial guidelines for swimming.
The state of the harbour isn't common knowledge because no government agency is reponsible for testing for E.coli, meaning that no group is publicly accountable for making sure it's safe.
Yikes! Maybe don't head down there with your paddle board at the first sign of warm weather.
