Toronto Catholic District School Board Removed The LGBT YouthLine From Its Resources
They said it was "inappropriate."
On Monday, the(TCDSB) removed the LGBT YouthLine from its list of student resources in a move the service is calling "a validation of homophobia."
YouthLine is a company that helps supportacross Ontario who are under the age of 29.
The TCDSB reported on Monday that the decision came after "inappropriate" content was found on the database's website.
YouthLine later issued a statement revealing they had been informed of the removal by the TCDSB's Chief of Mental Health Strategy and Staff Well-Being.
"In the email, we were informed that we had 'inappropriate material' on our site, and therefore they had to take our link off of the TCDSB resources website," the organization wrote on Monday.
"They linked an article from Joe Volpe, published on Corriere Canadese, titled 'TCDSB website hosts Pornographic site defended by trustees,'" they added.
The statement goes on to furtherfor removing the "much-needed service," and demanded it be re-instated.
TCDSB reported that staff are "connecting" with YouthLine to ensure continuing support for youth.
At the moment it is unclear if the two will agree to a compromise.
