If you've ever put up Christmas lights, chances are you've left them up a bit longer than you should. 

Well, lucky for you, Toronto City Hall is encouraging us to all leave our holiday decorations up until the end of January.

Mayor John Tory revealed the city's decision to brighten up neighbourhoods via Twitter on Thursday morning.

"Let's keep those Christmas lights up through January to brighten up neighbourhoods during the lockdown," the mayor wrote.

The lights will pay tribute to the city's frontline workers and hopefully lift a few other spirits as well.

On the bright side, keeping your lights on for longer shouldn't cost you too much this year.

The province announced last month that Ontario hydro bills would be reduced to account for people staying home during lockdown.
