Toronto Hydro wants Etobicoke residents to know they're sorry for last week's power outage. Many were left in the dark for three whole days, from April 5 to April 7. Now, Toronto Hydro is offering these people $100 gift cards to Loblaws, Walmart or Sobeys as many were forced to throw away refrigerated food.

"We know that many affected customers had food in their fridges and freezers that will now need to be replaced," reads their statement.

"In light of the significant length of the outage and its impact on customers during these difficult times, we're offering affected customers a $100 gift card to Loblaws, Walmart or Sobeys," it continues.

Residents in the area have now until June 15 to fill out the online application in order to receive their gift card.

"We're pleased to make this offer as a gesture of goodwill and a demonstration of our commitment to customer service," Toronto Hydro adds.

On April 6, the hydro company stated that an outage caused by an underground cable fault left hundreds of people without power for several days.

"Crews have been on scene overnight working. We know this is a difficult time to be without power. We appreciate your patience," they wrote.

After several days of challenging repairs, power was restored to all customers by 9:50 a.m. on April 7.

This came at a very difficult for these residents, as the city remains in the grip of a lockdown. Especially as police continue to crack down on social distancing violations.

Thankfully power has been restored and some compensation for lost groceries is on the way.

For those who would rather not wait in line, all three of these stores offer online grocery delivery in Toronto
