Community members are speaking out after a Toronto mosque received a slew of hate messages threatening snipers and murder this weekend. \nAccording to a statement from the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), hate messages were left at the downtown mosque on October 10.\nThe name of the place of worship has been concealed for security, and Toronto Police are currently investigating.\nEditor's Choice: An Ontario Man Went On A Racist Tirade On A Golf Course This Weekend (VIDEO)\n\n\n“\n\n\nWe need action now from the federal government to develop a national strategy on dismantling xenophobic groups.\n\n\nMustafa Farooq, National Council of Canadian Muslims\n\n\n\nThe messages that were left threaten to "murder," stating that "we have soldiers who have experience as snipers", and including that "we have the guns to do a Christchurch all over again."\nSince receiving the messages, NCCM stated that Toronto police are encouraging more vigilance at GTA mosques at this time, according to a tweet. \nJohn Tory released a statement on the incident, condemning xenophobia and hate. \n"As a city and as individual Torontonians we must stand together to ensure that the Muslim community feels supported and that the places of worship they rely on are not at risk of becoming unsafe spaces."\nNarcity has reached out to Toronto Police, who confirmed that enhanced patrols will be taking place."We will continue to have enhanced patrols in the areas identified, and will reassure members of the public that we have deployed available resources in those areas affected to ensure the safety of our communities."
