The TTC & GO Transit Will Be Completely Free For New Year's Eve
No need to draw straws for designated driver!
Christmas is still on its way, but it's never too early to plan your New Year's Eve festivities in advance. If travelling is a requirement for you and your BBFs, the Toronto New Year transit initiatives might be music to your ears. Free rides will be offered after 7 p.m. on December 31 on TTC and GO Transit services.
The TTC has announced it is continuing its recent tradition of offering complimentary transit to late-night boozers and revellers on routes in the city. The service will run until 7 a.m. on January 1, 2020.
This includes all routes on the subway, streetcars, and buses. Regular service will be running until the early evening, while the late-evening service will be extended by about two hours.
The TTC's initiative, aimed at ensuring celebrating Torontonians can get home safely and easily, comes in collaboration with Corby Spirit and Wine.
The final subway trains on Lines 1 to 4 will leave their respective stations between 3:30 a.m. and 4:05 a.m.
After those times, extra-service buses will serve numerous locations for the rest of the early-morning hours.
Meanwhile, if you're coming in from outside of the 6ix, GO Transit is also offering early homebound late-night rides and free travel after 7 p.m. until the end of service.
Anne Marie Aikins, Metrolinx media relations manager, advises party-goers to leave their cars at home and take GO Transit or to leave their cars in the parking lot after a night of drinking.
"If you have a car there, please don't drive it, you can leave it overnight in the parking lot and it won't be towed," she told Narcity.
So, if you've had to resort to expensive and in-demand ride shares while ushering in previous new years, rest assured there are money-conscious options available this year.
As for where you might want to go on your free trips, there are plenty of events taking place in the city on New Year's Eve.
Whether it's theor , there's plenty of time to build your plans around transit.
No need to even worry about reloading your PRESTO.
