Torontonians are being invited to sit down for a cup of coffee with a member of the Toronto Police Service today. Residents will have the opportunity to talk about issues that matter to them in a relaxed environment, as part of the Toronto Police Service's annual “Coffee with a Cop” day, which kicks off downtown at 1:00 PM on Monday.\nThe event will be held in a McDonald's located at 470 Yonge Street. The casual setting of the meeting is an effort by police, to break down the barriers between law enforcement and civilians in the hopes of giving voice to those who may otherwise be afraid to speak up. The event is expected to last several hours and is scheduled to take place from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.\nSeveral officers will be attending the meet-up, sitting down with members of the community to engage in informal discussion about community issues and help build relationships over a free cup of McDonald's coffee. It is unclear whether or not officers will be in uniform at the meeting or if they will be keeping casual.\nREAD ALSO: Public Safety Alert Issued After Multiple Toronto Men Were Seen Following Young Girls Home\nThose attending the event will receive a free small hot brewed coffee, which will hopefully entice a few more residents to set aside some time to hang out with our city police officers. No discussions are off the table; service members on site will be fielding any concerns that those sitting with them may have about the community.\nToronto Police Services first "Coffee with a Cop" event was held back in 2014, organized by the city's 41st Division. Since then, it has taken place annually across various coffee spots in the city's downtown core.\nHere is the official description of the event as stated in a news release posted to Toronto Police Services:\nREAD ALSO: 22-Year-Old Markham Man Still Missing After Incredibly Violent Armed Kidnapping Last Night\n"Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
