Toronto’s Porter Airlines Just Had A Huge Outage & Passengers Are Furious (PHOTOS)
The telecom outage left many passengers stranded.
The last 24 hours have been a nightmare for Porter Airlines passengers. The regional airline, which operates out of Billy Bishop airport in Toronto, claimed that a telecom outage in the U.S. caused a disruption in all areas of its websites. The Toronto Porter Airlines outage affected reservations and passenger processing. However, the airline said on Thursday morning that the issue has since been resolved.
“The US-based Telecom issue affecting Porter Airlines check-in has been resolved, and operations have returned to normal. Delays are likely this morning as we work through the backlog from yesterday. Please check with your airline and leave yourself extra time this morning,” the airline tweeted Thursday.
According to CBC, at least 20 flights were cancelled due to the sudden outage, including trips to Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa, Windsor, and Boston. Frustrated travellers quickly flooded social media on Wednesday to complain about long wait times on the tarmac and the lack of information about the delays.
The regional airline was also unable to re-book or make changes to flights during the outage. Porter Airline passengers were furious, saying that they should have been alerted about their flight status overnight.
The airline also stated that any passengers who need to cancel their trips as a result of the systems issue would be given a full refund that can be processed at a later date.
