There is truly never a dull moment in the 6ix. Toronto Police Services reported at around 2:50 PM this Tuesday via their official Twitter account that an unidentified man in a Spider-Man costume in Toronto had “webbed up" a sidewalk and thrown a rope across streetcar wires at the intersection of Spadina Avenue and Queen Street. Police officially labelled the incident a safety hazard, and as you could probably guess, residents are now jumping at the chance to comment on the bizarre news. It probably doesn’t help that police tweeted out that the man was “webbing off part of the sidewalk,” seemingly playing into the fact that it really was Spider-Man out there causing havoc. As for the reaction online, Torontonians were eager to take part in the joke, demanding that “Spider-Man” be arrested while some declared him a menace or a villain, in a nod to the comic book character’s fictional adversary J. Jonah Jameson who runs the Daily Bugle, a newspaper that loathes the wallcrawler. toronto spiderman is the villain our city shouldn't have to deal with right now.— pure, hazelnut grace. In fact, those who live in the city are probably used to the impersonator at this point, whether it’s one man or a few different Spidey-imposters would be hard to say, but Toronto Spidey has been around for years: saw him Sunday in Kensington too— JK (@SeeJanie_tweet) June 4, 2019 I've seen this guy on Spadina for years now...I just walk past and don't make eye contact.
