Toronto's beaches aren't just a happening place during the summer. Now they are transforming to a winter wonderland too. Starting tonight, the beaches are going to be lit up with thousands of Christmas lights.\nFrom tonight until the end of February, Toronto's Woodbine Beach boardwalk will be completely decked out with over 80,000 individual Christmas lights.\n@lightupthebeachembedded via\nThe event is called Light Up The Beach and it's sponsored by Declute Real Estate. The company pays for the lights to be put up every year in the trees along the beaches. They are strung along an almost 1 KM stretch between the Leuty Lifeguard House and the Balmy Beach Club.\nThe holiday trail was originally created to get even more Torontonians out to the beaches all year round, not just in the summer. To make the attraction even more festive, they hang 20,000 feet of string lights in the trees up to 65 feet above the boardwalk.\nThe lighting ceremony is even more magical because Santa himself comes to officially turn on the Christmas lights and kick off the festive event.\nREAD ALSO: You Can Walk Through A 2-Kilometre Park Filled With 100,000 Christmas Lights In Ontario Next Month\n@lightupthebeachembedded via\nThe best part about the winter event, which attracts thousands of people from around the world, is that it's completely free! There is no admission to walk the boardwalk and see the magical lights, but they do ask for a donation.\nThe event fundraises for the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation. The hospital in Toronto supports people with mental health and addiction issues.
