Twitter Has Exploded Since The CN Tower Went Gold For Drake Last Night (PHOTOS)
Torontonians cannot stop talking about the CN Tower and the Toronto Sign turning gold last night at Drake's request.
Drake may be giving Mayor John Tory a run for his money when it comes to carrying the greatest influence over the City of Toronto. Though he didn’t exactly “call him on his cell phone”,loud and clear on Sunday night after his song “God’s Plan” won the Grammy for Best Rap Song in Los Angeles.
When Mayor Tory decided to “take care” of Drake’s request and add some gold “bling” to the CN Tower and the Toronto Sign in Nathan Phillips Square, the Internet – including the one and only Champagne Papi himself – responded.
Drake posted a picture of the gold-lit CN Tower on Instagram last night, along with the caption “I was talking last night as if I don’t have these on control using the hue lighting app...😂 nah for real I love my city and this is my real sign of love and recognition thank you to the waviest mayor John Tory!”
As a self-proclaimed “6ix God”, it is difficult to doubt that Drake loves his hometown of Toronto more than anything. Toronto’s most fashionable nickname, “The 6ix”, was popularized by Drake in 2015 thanks to the unforgettable hook in “Know Yourself”.

He frequently refers to Toronto sports teams, restaurants, hotels, streets, and schools in his songs, and has even mentioned Terminals 1 and 3 of Pearson Airport in his song “The Ride” from his 2011 album Take Care.
Whether or not he truly started from the bottom (he did grow up in Forest Hill, after all), Drake seems to never be too famous to hold on and go home. According to last night’s Instagram and Twitter blow-up, it is obvious that Drake’s adoration and devotion for his city are mutual – we love you too, Drake!
