Last night's Game 5 of the NBA Finals was heartbreaking for Toronto Raptors fans. But it seems that a couple of rowdy troublemakers took it too far after the Raptors' devastating 1-point loss to the Golden State Warriors. A video posted to Twitter depicts a Warriors fan punched in the streets of Toronto after the game finished last night.\nThe unflattering video, which has gotten over 100,000 views since it was posted online last night, has basketball fans from across the continent questioning Toronto fans' behaviour during and after Game 5.\nUp until last night's game, Toronto fans have been applauded for their good sportsmanship and respectful demeanour. Throughout the NBA post-season, Raptors fans have been notoriously characterized for their civility and decorum.\nFirst that, then #warriors fan gets sucker punched twice postgame. C'mon guys. pic.twitter.com/dARKkbtus3— 🏆 (@comeflywithb) June 11, 2019\nEven Golden State Warriors player Klay Thompson remarked about how much he appreciated Toronto's kindness. Warriors coach Steve Kerr echoed a similar sentiment during an interview.\nThe incident certainly paints an ugly picture of Torontonians, and social media users haven't been holding back their criticisms.\nAs a Canadian and die hard Raps fan, this doesn't represent Toronto, Raptor Fans, or Canadians AT ALL. I live outside Toronto but most people are respectful. These idiots that abused and assaulted this fan should be arrested and face consequences— A Hockey Voice (@AllJokesAsideYa) June 11, 2019\nI'm an American expat here. I learned the hard way. They are low down pigs in Toronto. They see him alone...so of course. They are envious of everything American. The truth is finally out..good that Americans see their true colors.— Pixie Glo Life (@PixieGloLife) June 11, 2019\nThey only thing classy about Toronto are the Raptors. A Canadian franchise with 99.9% American players. That's why this win means so much to Canadians. It's more like the wold cup to them. American's don't realize that this is more than an NBA win for Canadians.— Pixie Glo Life (@PixieGloLife) June 11, 2019\n@suhind Toronto is the trashiest city ever. More than Cleveland. Which is saying everything.— Nish (@TheKuberReport) June 11, 2019\nSome fans tried to defend Raptors fans, saying that the vast majority are good-natured, even-tempered people.\nThere are groups of Canadian sports fans that do this crap all the time, especially with hockey, this isn’t anything new...people just don’t pay attention to it. There are a LOT of good people up there though, this is just the minority.— Zain N. (@zain49ers) June 11, 2019\nWhy ppl acting like Toronto is the only city this would happen? There’s always gonna some stupid person that ruins it and tarnishes a great game.— MJ (@msdhak) June 11, 2019\nIt’s honestly not a reflection of our city or our fan base. These thugs exist in every city and it’s unfortunate. They don’t even watch the games. Go see the other warriors fans earlier around the Raptors real fans. It was all friendly jeering and banter as it should be.— Philly D (@TheReelPhilD) June 11, 2019\nThere are awful fans in every fan base. I would ask that you don't judge a city or a fan base by the actions of a handful of classless fans— Brandon Wiehr (@BWiehr) June 11, 2019\nSome commenters were really, really harsh.\nExpat American who knows this.. I travel back and forth. The Canadians that like Americans, have helped me adapt. They truly are cruel people here...even to other nice Canadians. There is also a lot of Canadian envy towards Americans. It's so pathetic.— Pixie Glo Life (@PixieGloLife) June 11, 2019\nAnd some called on Mayor John Tory, Raptors President Masai Ujiri, and Drake to intervene.\n@JohnTory @Raptors Masai Ujiri @Drake you all need to come out and condemn this kind of action. this is no way representative of what being a Torontonian should be and should not be tolerated anywhere in our city @CP24— Adrian Alfonso (@ah_durian) June 11, 2019\nBetween the violent post-game antics and the gleeful cheering at Kevin Durant's injury, it was a disappointing night to be a Raptors fan, according to many people:\nThis is so upsetting. As a Raptor fan I find this despicable and not representative of our fan base. Then again, after tonight, maybe I’m wrong. I’m sorry - you deserve better GS fans. This was classless and so not Canadian. Good game to you all.— Munir Ajani (@munir_ajani) June 11, 2019\nMan... From Vancouver and a Warriors fan for a while. Ppl I know on the raptors wagon real quick. But this is messed up. Coulda happened to me but maybe Vancouver wouldn't stoop this low. Oh wait, there was a Canucks riot before. Just disappointed. We can't handle the sports.— fsport (@fsport250) June 11, 2019\nThis is atrocious behaviour. I expected better from Canadians!— Mark (@The_400_Blows_) June 11, 2019\nLet's do better, Toronto.
