York Police Chase Man Driving Drunk With His 4-Year-Old Daughter In The Car (VIDEO)
The intense video starts with a 911 call and ends with an arrest.
A call about an impaired driver led York Regional Police on a wild chase on May 24. Police arrested a 34-year-old Newmarket man who was driving under the influence with his four-year-old daughter in the car. Video footage showcases the moment police were able to catch the driver.
According to York Regional Police, the incident occurred at around 10:35 p.m. on May 24.
After receiving a call from a citizen who spotted a vehicle almost swerving into a ditch near the intersection at Yonge Street and St. John’s Sideroad, police headed out to find the driver.
When police spotted the vehicle they turned on their sirens, only for the car to flee.
However, officers later rediscovered the suspect in the area of Lenarthur Court and were able to place him under arrest.
The press release states that he was then transported to #1 District, where he refused to provide a breath sample.
A video of the incident was later posted to Twitter. In the video, police can be seen arresting the disoriented father who can be heard slurring his words.
The driver then reveals to the police that his child was in the car as the officer reassured him that they will take care of his daughter.
"We have a small... girl that was in the car. She's in my cruiser right now. She's scared. We'll let you know more in a minute," an officer can be heard saying near the end of the video.
Police revealed that once the four-year-old girl was discovered, the Children's Aid Society was contacted and the girl was picked up by her mother at the scene.
Police are asking anyone who witnesses dangerous driving on the road to call 911 immediately.
The suspect has been charged with Impaired Driving, Failure or Refusal to Comply with Breath Demand, and Flight from Peace Officer.
