A woman is battling life-threatening injuries after she was stabbed in the neck near York University on Wednesday night. The York University stabbing happened at Assiniboine Rd. and Evelyn Wiggins Dr. shortly after 10 p.m. The motives behind the crime are still unknown and police are still currently investigating and looking for a suspect. Narcity reached out to Toronto Police Service, who could not confirm the woman's age or if she was a student at the university. However, Media Relations Officer Caroline de Kloet did say that a witness was the one who called the police."The complainant contacted police after coming across a male who was standing over a female. The male, who was armed with a knife, ran away and the complainant noticed that the female was covered in blood," she wrote in the email. "Responding officers located the victim and confirmed that she had sustained stab wounds to her neck. Paramedics attended and transported the victim to a trauma centre. K9 is attending to assist with locating the suspect. The scene has been secured and the investigation continues."The suspect is an Asian male with a slim build and standing at around 5'11. It is still unclear if the suspect and victim knew each other, or if it was a random attack.\n41 Keele: Detour northbound via Finch Ave W and Sentinel Rd due to police activity at Keele and Murray Ross.— TTC Service Alerts (@TTCnotices) January 23, 2020\nOfficer Alex Li told CP24 that he urges the public to stay away from the area at the moment, as the suspect is still at large. “We have information that he had fled the scene on foot,” Li said. “We also have information that he is in possession of a knife so I do urge the public to avoid the area if possible as our officers continue to search for the suspect.”\nYork University has told Narcity that, "Special attention to the south end of campus by York Security has been actioned. York Security has increased patrols in the area. The Toronto Police investigation is ongoing and York Security is assisting police in their investigation."\nThe 41 Keele bus route is being diverted on its route due to the investigation.\nStudents who are heading to York today should take extra time to get to class due to the disturbance.
