As the leader of a country, you are undoubtedly subjected to a hefty amount of media attention. This means when you make a bit of a mess answering a simple question on camera, with the internet and social media, the whole world very quickly knows about it. Especially when the question is about Trudeau's plastic use.\nThe Prime Minister made headlines on Monday, by announcing that his government will ban single-use plastics, as early as 2021. While the details of the ban and what it will encompass has not yet been made clear, Trudeau told reporters that he was personally committed to the objective. A sentiment that would have been nice, if he’d had an answer in mind to the very simple follow up question: How?\nDuring the news conference, Trudeau was asked by a reporter, "What do you and your family do to cut back on plastics?" The seemingly simple question appeared to throw Trudeau off-guard, and his response was as equally bizarre as it was hilarious.\nHe said “We have recently switched to drinking water bottles out of water out of — when we have water bottles out of a plastic … sorry … away from plastic, towards paper … like drink box water bottles sort of thing.” Naturally, it didn't take long for the awkward video to go viral on Twitter, and people weren't too impressed with the Prime Minister's gaffe.\nWow Trudeau, that was a amazing answer to the water bottle question. I uh, knew there uh, was a reason uh, why I uh voted uh,for you. Uh.— Scott Philippe (@sctexc) June 11, 2019\nI never know if Trudeau is being openly sarcastic, trying to do parody, or just a genuinely clueless twat! That he's in any elected office creates troubling questions for all Canadians.— Seamus de Mora (@seamusdemora) June 11, 2019\nA number of people online found it frustrating that Trudeau is planning to ban single-use plastics across the whole of Canada, while he is unable to coherently explain just one thing that he and his family are doing as individuals to cut back on their plastic uses. One user called on Trudeau to "practice what you preach!"\nIsn’t this the guy that is supposed be promoting a country that is trying to get rid of plastics in our oceans & landfills? Shame on you, Mr. PM!What a total POS & absolute hypocrite! Have you heard of the saying “practise what you preach”?!... https://t.co/KLpT6HwPk2— Greg Granger (@NewSlenderUByVi) June 12, 2019\nAre these paper-like drink-box-water-bottle sort-of thing recyclable? I’m still thinking my dog, Otis, and I are definitely doing more to prevent plastic water bottles ending up in the ocean than the Trudeau family!💦 https://t.co/EnmJusiLw8— Bente Nielsen (@BentePRPhotoGal) June 10, 2019\nIt never crossed his mind that his family was supposed to cut back too. Clearly evident by that answer.— James Roberts (@JamesRo62799424) June 10, 2019\nWhile many Canadians were pretty mad with Trudeau and his comments, others took to Twitter to poke fun at the situation, joking about paper water bottles and 'juice-box things'.\nDoes anybody know where I can get some plastic, I mean not plastic, uuhhhh Juice box water bottle things? #Trudeau— Sean 🚒Cap'n Danger (@twistedironfarm) June 11, 2019\nTo save on plastics, Justin Trudeau’s family buys plastic water bottles then pours them into paper juice boxes to drink from— Adam Dempsey 🐋 (@dempseydmc) June 10, 2019\nTrudeau: We have recently switched to drinking water bottles out of…water, when we have water bottles…out of a plastic…sorry…away from plastic towards paper, like drink-box, water-bottle sorta things.I’m sorry Justin, the answer we were looking for was ‘we return our cans’.— Lars Callieou (@ExtraLars) June 10, 2019\nI think what he meant to say was covfefe.— Devin Nunes' Suit (@NunesSuit) June 11, 2019\nWhatever Prime Minister Trudeau was trying to say, it is likely he will have learned his lesson. Either way the ban is now underway.
