Long-distance relationships are hard at the best of times and even more so during a pandemic, but that isn't a good excuse for why an American boated into Canada to see his girlfriend on the weekend.

RCMP say that on Sunday, September 27, they were patrolling the marine border in the Southern Gulf Islands region in B.C.

They saw a boat out of Bellingham, Washington anchored off the coast near Surrey.

[...] the trip was simply personal in nature and no other criminality was involved.

Onboard, they met a man from Washington who had just picked up his girlfriend nearby.

He did not report going into Canada and didn't follow our quarantine restrictions.

RCMP brought his date back to shore and her plan is to self-isolate for two weeks.

He was arrested and then fined $1000 under the Quarantine Act.

Plus, he had to pay $1000 to get his boat back and had to leave Canada immediately.
