A scary incident involving an emergency response team has been caught on tape. Yesterday, police used a heavily armoured tank on a city street to capture a potentially armed man in New Westminister, BC. The entire incident was caught on video by a bystander and it looked pretty intense. Following the incident, two individuals were taken into custody by local law enforcement. The investigation continues to unfold. New Westminister is in the Lower Mainland and only 30 minutes from Vancouver. According to Global News, the incident took place in the area of East Columbia and Sherbrooke Street at around 1 PM. An Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called to deal with the potentially dangerous situation. ERT officers such as the ones called are trained for high-risk situations. The group of highly trained and armed police attended the New Westminster scene fully armed and in a large armoured vehicle. Scott told the New Westminster Record that the police took every precaution necessary and in doing so, deployed ERT. Scott has stated that the situation was resolved in a safe manner. Following the midday raid, two adult males were taken into custody without incident. The investigation is now ongoing and police are continuing to assess the details. The video shows two officers raiding the New Westminster home in the midafternoon. You can see a large armoured tank sitting outside the home where the man allegedly returned with a firearm. Officers in the video are heavily armed from head to toe and are carrying a number of weapons while the stand at the doorway of the residence. From the video, it looks as though the individuals were handcuffed without incident. Another officer can be seen walking in an out of the residence with equipment including that of a chainsaw. The entire incident took place in broad daylight on the city street while onlookers watched from a restaurant just across from the active crime scene. As of now, two men remain in police custody. According to Scott, the investigation is ongoing to “determine if there was, in fact, a firearm, and if it was safely or unsafely stored, or prohibited.”
