Three young people have been arrested for assault, obstruction, and mischief after they swarmed Surrey RCMP officers who were responding to an unrelated call.

RCMP confirmed to Narcity that the incident happened on Monday, September 14 around 5:30 p.m. at a housing complex in Surrey.

Officers were there to check in on a kid who had been reportedly left unattended when they were surrounded by a group of about 10 to 15 young people and some adults. In the video, they appear to be punching and kicking a cruiser.

In an interview, RCMP said that officers were punched in the head and were having things thrown at them.

The investigation is still ongoing, said Cpl. Elenore Sturko, Media Relations Officer for Surrey RCMP, but three youths ended up being arrested and two officers were assaulted.
