Uber Confirms That They Still Plan To Launch In Vancouver Next Month
But, taking an Uber in Vancouver will be a "different experience" than in other cities.
It seems like our transportation options are about to improve in Vancouver. Uber has confirmed in a statement that they still plan to launch in Metro Vancouver by December. If all goes according to plan, Uber promises that we be able to reap the benefits of Uber in Vancouver as early as next month.
B.C. has had an extremely difficult time trying to get Uber into the province. However, as of September 3, 2019, the B.C. government has been accepting applications for ride-hailing companies to launch in the city.
Unsurprisingly, Uber and Lyft were quick to apply. Although it seemed like a long and complicated road for Uber to begin, the ride-sharing company has announced that they're going full steam ahead. This is wonderful news as now more than ever.
Whileabout the plans, Uber is planning to launch whether they're ready for it or not.
According to their statement, Uber plans on providing Metro Vancouver with “safe, affordable, reliable rides this December, to help people get home safely during the busy holiday season.”
As of now, there are three things that need to happen in order to launch operations. Uber must wait for approval from the Passenger Transportation Board, and they have to purchase ICBC insurance to ensure every ride is covered.
Uber is also working on partnering with drive programs to ensure the unique requirement of having a Class 4 licence is met.
Uber has stated that because drive-partners set their own hours, the company will have to form multiple partnerships to meet the expected high demand for ride-sharing services.
Given this, Uber expects that riders in Vancouver will experience higher wait times to start.
“Overall, it will be a different experience than in other cities. We hope to work with the government to address these very solvable challenges,” Uber states. Despite the obstacles, the company is hopeful that they will be able to operate in B.C. in the next few weeks.
some of their Vancouver drivers through online job posting. But they aren’t the only company to be doing so, in fact, Lyft has also started to hire a number of employees within the city. Now, all we can do is wait to see what happens in December.
