Canadians are likely wondering what reopening will even look like. With so many businesses making plans, people are also probably asking "when will Tim Hortons reopen?" While there is no definite date, the company has described how it might look when the time comes. In a May 12 open letter, Jose Cil, CEO of Tim Hortons' parent company Restaurant Brands International, described how restaurants might look when they're allowed to reopen for good. Cil said that following the drive-thru and delivery options offered by Tim Hortons (as well as fellow RBI brands Popeyes and Burger King), the company would be moving into the next phase of reopening. While it will feel like a return to normal, Cil noted that there could be some permanent changes coming to dining rooms. "For instance, while we have mandated masks and gloves in the short-term," he wrote, "our brand and operations teams are now evaluating more comfortable and reusable masks that may become part of our standard uniforms." RBI's restaurants will continue to utilize their expanded online ordering, drive-thru, and curbside pickup options, providing service with "speed and limited contact." As dining rooms open, there will be special measures to ensure the proper amount of social distancing. Tables will also be marked with signage "to indicate which tables are open and which ones are reserved to help maintain safe distances." There will be increased sanitizing in restaurants, with tables and chairs being wiped down after each customer leaves. Hand sanitizer will be available for use in all dining rooms. Employees working for RBI companies will be undergoing "thorough, rigorous training" to ensure that all health and safety protocols are followed during the reopening period. The chain will be putting new safety protocols into play to protect employees and customers. First, workers will be subject to regular "wellness checks," which includes getting temperatures taken before each shift. Like many other stores and establishments, plexiglass shields will be installed at points of service. Regular sanitizing and PPE for employees will also be a core part of Starbucks' safety plan. Of course, the chains we know and love will adjust their measures based on the advice of Canada's health authorities.
