Who Is Brett Kavanaugh, The Supreme Court Justice Nominee Accused Of Sexual Assault By Multiple Women
Brett Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual assault and misconduct by at least three women.
If you've been skimming the headlines recently, you've definitely seen the name "Brett Kavanaugh" everywhere. Kavanaugh was an American attorney and jurist who serves as a United States Circuit Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
He's currently a nominee to become an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States; however, during his nominations, he's become the center of a media firestorm due to new sexual allegations brought against him.
So far, three women have come forward with either sexual misconduct or assault accusations against Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh's nomination also becomes even more controversial since he was President Trump's pick to join the United State's highest court.
Dr. Christina Blasey Ford was the first to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Ford claims that in 1982, Kavanaugh forced her onto a bed during a house party in Maryland, groped her, tried to take off her clothes. Ford claims that a second man, Mark Judge, was in the room and watched until finally stopping the assault. All three of them were teenagers and in high school at the time.
Deborah Ramirez, 53, claims that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a dorm party at Yale University. She claims that they were with a group of students playing a drinking game when the incident occurred. She says that Kavanaugh exposed himself and then shoved his penis in her face.
The third accusation became public on Wednesday. Julie Swetnick, 55, grew up in the same county of Maryland. She claims that while working at the State Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security, she witnessed Kavanaugh and Mark Judge, attempt to get teenage girls "inebriated and disoriented so they could then be 'gang raped' in a side room or bedroom by a 'train' of numerous boys".
Swetnick also stated that she was a victim of one of the gang rapes but didn't specify if her assailant was Kavanaugh or Judge or both.
In the #MeToo era, allegations of this sort are extremely controversial and the general public will not stand to support someone that has allegedly conducted this type of assault behaviour. Kavanaugh has continued to deny all the claims against him and states that none of the accusations have any merit.
