The 18-Year-Old Who Asked Canadians To Vote Has Passed Away With 1 Final Wish
This is heartbreaking.
Maddison Yetman made herself known during the Canadian federal election when she shared a message about voting despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer. The terminally ill Winnipeg teen who urged others to vote has passed away, but as her final wish, she hoped that people would continue to make the world a better place.
An announcement about Maddison's passing was made on her Twitter page.
"Maddison passed away yesterday afternoon after a short but courageous battle with cancer," the post reads. "She ask that we thank everyone who sent messages of support and love. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Nature Conservancy of Canada."
The tweet included a link to a donation page with the Nature Conservancy of Canada, where donors can choose either a one-time or a monthly donation.
"With a passion for protecting the environment, Maddison has served her community as a climate change activist and as an outstanding young leader of this cause," the donation page reads.
"Maddison believed that indigenous people understand how to properly use and protect the land and by returning to those values Canadians will be able to enjoy the beauty and wonder that Canada has to offer for generations to come."
Maddison tweeted a video of herself in a hospital bed on October 15. Through handwritten notes,.
Her tweet received responses from Justin Trudeau, Jagmeet Singh, and Elizabeth May. Her tweet also inspired the hashtag #VotedForMaddison.
There has been an outpouring of condolences for Maddison on Twitter following the announcement, including a tweet from Dragon's Den host Arlene Dickinson.
"Heartbreaking. Maddison made such a difference in her life and to her country. Sending her family and friends all my love. 💔," Dickinson wrote.
Certain forms of cancer can be very aggressive. Alex Trebek has been very open about.
There is often an outpouring of support for cancer patients, however, such as when athat brought visits from everyone in his town.
