Since Inauguration Day in the U.S., the iconic Bernie Sanders meme has been taking over the internet. Now, after Justin Trudeau used it to make a point about avoiding non-essential travel, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is using it to make a point of his own. Sharing the meme, the Canadian PM wrote, “It was one thing when my son crashed my press conference a month or so ago, but this... Now is not the time to travel. Stay home - and by that, I mean your own home.” In a tweet on January 24, one day after the prime minister posted his version of the picture, Singh gave it an update. In Singh’s version of the viral image, the American politician can be seen sitting outside Rideau Cottage holding a sign that reads “tax the ultra rich.” “Fixed it.” wrote the NDP leader as a caption. In a follow-up tweet, Singh shared a petition calling on the federal government to tax wealthy people who he says have profited off the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a message he’s shared multiple times before, previously describing people like Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos as a “pandemic profiteer.”
