Bianca Andreescu's performance at the US Open cannot be understated. The 19-year-old tennis star from Mississauga made history again with her Grand Slam singles win. Canadians are already going crazy over Andreescu's latest victory, and for good reason. Following her other historic win at the Rogers Cup, Andreescu is on a meteoric rise. Canadians have even started their own Twitter hashtag for her, in the style of the champion Raptors: #shethenorth. Andreescu played amazingly in the US Open, and the entire tournament was filled with memorable moments. We've rounded up seven of the best! Her puppy watched her win Bianca Andreescu is through to the semis at the US Open, but I'm all about her Mom. I can only assume it is a Canadian tribute to be rocking the sunglasses at night. I can only hope she tops this outfit for the next game. And @kateberlant will play her in the TV movie. pic.twitter.com/tbXGjw8Ddi— haddylikestunes (@haddylikestunes) September 5, 2019 Anyone familiar with Andreescu's life outside the tennis court knows that her dog, Coco, has a special place in her heart. Well, Coco got a prime view to watch her win the US Open, as he sat with Andreescu's parents in the crowd. He probably didn't even have to buy a ticket! She kept her cool while being heckled It's a reality of playing any sport that when you're not playing at home, there are going to be people cheering against you. Andreescu had to deal with American hecklers in the stands at Arthur Ashe stadium, yelling "double fault" at her while she was playing. However, Andreescu let the jeers roll off her back, and continued to win against all odds. She became the first Canadian to make it to the finals View this post on Instagram no limits A post shared by Bianca (@biancaandreescu_) on Sep 5, 2019 at 12:51pm PDT Andreescu had already made history as the first Canadian woman in 50 years to win the Rogers Cup. She continued this trend of historic wins by becoming the first Canadian woman ever to make it to the finals of the US Open. That alone would have been enough to declare Andreescu's performance historic, but she wasn't stopping there. She won a decisive victory over Taylor Townsend to advance View this post on Instagram Don’t touch my plate, I’m not done eating 🍽🎾 A post shared by TAYLOR TOWNSEND✨❤ (@tay_taytownsend) on Aug 31, 2019 at 5:36pm PDT One of the opponents that Andreescu had to face in the US Open was none other than Taylor Townsend, an American tennis player who had also been pulling off some historic wins. Andreescu and Townsend's match was epic, with both players pulling off some impressive feats. Townsend's aggressive and tricky playstyle made things hard for Andreescu, but she managed to pull through and beat Townsend to advance to the quarter-finals. Thank you xx. Real recognize real ✊🏽 unreal tourney you had, first of many more!! https://t.co/oFrDUVvYLZ— Bianca (@Bandreescu_) September 3, 2019 She finally got her rematch against Serena Williams View this post on Instagram I wish you a speedy recovery @serenawilliams. I know you’ll be back in no time🙏🏽 A post shared by Bianca (@biancaandreescu_) on Aug 11, 2019 at 5:31pm PDT Andreescu's Rogers Cup victory came after the withdrawal by Serena Williams due to an injury, although it did not detract from the historic win. However, tennis fans were probably eager to see these stars play a full match to find out who would really win. They got the opportunity when Andreescu faced off against Williams in the US Open finals. While Williams gave Andreescu a run for her money, the Canadian star pulled out an incredible victory, one that even surprised her! In true Canadian fashion, she apologized for winning Peak Canadian moment: @Bandreescu_ apologizing after winning the #USOpen 😂🇨🇦. pic.twitter.com/0iIcXxfgHY— TSN (@TSN_Sports) September 7, 2019 Is there anything more Canadian than an apology? Andreescu proved her innate Canadian-ness when, in a post-match interview, she told the crowd of mostly American fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium, "I know you guys wanted Serena to win, so I'm so sorry." Nothing to be sorry for, Bianca! You won it fair and square! She got a Twitter shout out from a tennis legend An outstanding win for @Bandreescu_! 🇨🇦 #USOpen #WomenWorthWatching #SheTheNorth pic.twitter.com/rQisO849JO— Billie Jean King (@BillieJeanKing) September 7, 2019 After her victory, Andreescu was getting tons of attention on social media, but one tweet probably stood out among the rest of them. Tennis great Billie Jean King, who was making tennis history before Andreescu was even born, congratulated the young star on her win, writing that it was "outstanding." We agree!
