The Alberta beef continues.
If you're a hockey fan, and Albertan, a person with the internet, or all of the above, you've probably heard of the infamous rivalry between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. Whether they're throwing down on the ice during a Battle of Alberta or throwing down on the internet, these two teams just can't seem to get along. Well, the bad blood continues after reporter Jim Matheson inquired about Leon Draisaitl and Matthew Tkachuk playing together in the all-star game.
Leon Draisaitl plays for the Edmonton Oilers and Matthew Tkachuk for the.
According to Sportsnet, the all-star weekend will be kicking off on Friday, January 24 in St. Louis with a skills competition on day one and the famous 3-on-3 tournament on Saturday, January 25.
From the Pacific Division, seven forwards will make up the star-studded lineup and that includes Matthew Tkachuk, Leon Draisitl, and another Edmonton Oiler, Connor McDavid.
defencemen, Mark Giordano will also be playing as one of the all-stars.
Because there are nine players apart from goalies, seven forwards and two defensemen, there’s a pretty good chance that the Oilers’ and Flames’ players could land on the ice together.
Though, Draisaitl made it pretty clear he wouldn’t let that happen in a comment to Jim Matheson.
"Draisaitl when asked what he would do if he and McDavid had to play with Tkachuk in 3 on 3 at all-star game: "I would get off the ice,"" read a tweet by Matheson posted this afternoon.
Shortly after this tweet, Matheson tweeted a slight correction.
"Draisaitl on the 3-on-3 possibility of Tkachuk being with he and McDavid at the all-star game. When I asked the question, I tweeted his response as "I'd get off the ice." Exact quote was "I'd probably get off the ice,"" the reporter wrote.
After anbetween the Oilers and the Flames on Saturday, January 11, it's clear that the rivalry between the two teams isn't going away any time soon.
On Saturday's game, the Flames took to the win in a close game that finished at 4-3.
Though Matthew Tkachuk is known for being a scrappy player and has certainly created rivalries in the past, he was seen during the weekend's game resisting a fight with Edmonton's Zach Kassian.
As of now, Tkachuk hasn't responded publically to the statement by Draisaitl.
We're intrigued to see what actually happens if the two have to share the ice for the all-star game.
