A Throwback Photo Of Nick Nurse Playing Basketball Just Surfaced & It's Hilariously '80s
Wait, Nurse wasn't always a 50-year-old coach?
Who doesn’t love a good blast from the past? Toronto Raptors head coach, Nick Nurse, shared an old school picture of him on Thursday, November 21, 2019, and it’s about as '80s as it gets. In the photo, he can be seen sporting a pair of short shorts, which for some reason, use to be the standard until the '90s while playing college basketball for the University of Northern Iowa.
Nurse is almost unrecognizable in the picture. After all, many of us always just assumed that he was born a 52-year-old coach with facial hair and glasses.
However, the black-and-white photo shows a much younger version of the head coach battling against another team.
Hints of his baller past made headlinesafter the Raptors shared a video of him shooting a couple of hoops before practice.
In the clip, Nurse can be seen working his way around the hoop before hitting a clean two-pointer. It's hard to tell, but it looks like at the end of the video, the coach clocks the camera, like a total boss, before walking away calmly.
It, of course, didn’t take long for Raptors fans to jump all over the old school photo of their beloved head coach.
“Rocking them short shorts like a boss,” wrote one user, who clearly has an appreciation for retro fashion.
“You were young once? I thought you came outta the womb with a beard and play calls,” wrote another.
Nurse played at the University of Northern Iowa, appearing in 111 games.
He also happens to be the school's all-time 3-point percentage leader — not bad, not bad at all.
He later went on tofor the team during the 1989–90 season.
After graduating from Northern Iowa in May 1990, Nurse became a player-coach during the 1990-91 season for the Derby Rams in the British Basketball League.
It's good to know that if the Raptors ever find themselves in a real bind, old Nicky could just suit up in his old gear and hit the court.
