This Waterfall Swimming Hole Is Alberta's Best Kept Secret
Looking for an escape? Castle Falls is just a 2.5 hour drive south of Calgary, and it has everything you’re looking for.
Amazing views? Check. Adventure? Check. A ski-themed pub? Check.
Castle Falls is the perfect place for a weekend camping trip with friends. Camp on the shores of the river and go off the grid for a few hours. Bring a slackline, bring your bathing suit, and bring a dose of courage if you’re brave enough to go cliff jumping into the icy glacier water. Go for a sunrise hike up Castle Mountain and take in the stunning views or simply relax on the sprawling rock face surrounding the falls.
The campground itself is straight out of a Bob Ross painting. The lots have ample room for all your friends, but it's up to you to bring the munchies, the drinks, and your comfiest flannel. All of the lots have close access to the river, making them the perfect home base to explore the surrounding beauty.
Can’t go a full weekend without wifi? Take a 20-minute drive to the ski resort and have a pint with the rowdy crowd at the T-Bar. The food is amazing, the service is friendly, and the beer is cold. 20 minutes in the other direction is the sleepy town of Beaver Mines where you can re-stock on firewood and jiffy pop and settle down for a cozy coffee and sandwich at the general store's cafe (and trust me, the sandwiches are bomb af).
Castle Falls is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, and truly has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for an adventure with friends or simply a romantic getaway off the grid, Castle Falls has you covered.
