Even though it is freezing, it doesn't mean we need to stop having fun outdoors. In fact, the frosty climate allows us to enjoy unique wintertime celebrations. Starting next week, Flying Canoë Volant will be taking over Edmonton. You'll certainly want to check it out as you'll be able to explore a dazzling illuminated trail for free.

The festival will take place from Thursday, January 30 to Saturday, February 1, 2020, each night starting at 6 p.m.

It is so massive that it will be occurring at several different sites, La Cité Francophone, Edmonton Ski Club, Rutherford School and the Mill Creek Ravine.

The main attraction is the flying canoe races, which are unlike anything you've seen before.

This year, teams of four people will do a Canadian "Triathlon" where they need to race in a canoe, cut a log, and throw axes.

Across Canada, illuminated trails have been super trendy, and Edmonton knows how to have fun in the winter so theirs is guaranteed to be amazing.

You'll be able to visit the Mill Creek Ravine all three nights from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. to explore the illuminated trails.

You will get to wander along the snowy route that will be glowing with a kaleidoscope of colours.

The entire setting will feel like a fantasy world with new and breathtaking spots around each corner.

There will be art from a variety of artists plus gorgeous lanterns hanging over your head.

If that wasn't incredible enough, at Rutherford School grounds and La Cité Francophone, there's more to see that will make you love the long winter nights.

You'll get to see sparkling snow sculptures, and have a blast on the snowy slides.

Then, you can warm up at the fire pits before getting a drink at the ice bar or trying some sweet maple taffy.

With so many things to experience, the only question is which will you do first. For us, we're going to bundle up with a hot chocolate and take a date down the kaleidoscope path.

The full schedule of activities, along with a map of the various locations, can be found on the official website.
