If you're relatively new to the city of Edmonton, or maybe even if you've lived here for your whole life, you may be wondering what the best things to do now that all the leaves have fallen and the weather has suddenly gotten very cold are. A lot of people are under the impression that you HAVE to stay inside until next spring because it's impossible to have a good time in the cold, but that's the furthest thing from the truth.

Seeing as Halloween is right around the corner, there are so many spooky and creepy festivities to partake in this fall! The Deadmonton Haunted House, the Edmonton Ghost Tours, and the Haunted Pumpkin Festival are all going down as we speak, just to name a few! Not only will these events totally get you in the fall, Halloween spirit, they're also great spots to capture photos that will keep your Instagram feed looking super fresh.

If Halloween isn't really your thing, that's ok! Fall also brings so many other wonderful things that are worth appreciating. There's no denying that a hot drink (a Pumpkin Spice Latte, perhaps? ūüėČ) always tastes better in the fall - especially if it's enjoyed somewhere fun like a Cat Cafe, or a board game cafe! You don't need to stay in your bed to be cozy this fall, you can simply throw on a cardigan and a beanie to stay comfy while you venture out and make some memories this season.

What we're really trying to say here is that Edmonton, or Deadmonton, as is more suitable during the Halloween season, has so many fun, unique spots for you to explore that are well worth your time. Next time you're feeling bored, hit up your friends and make plans to hit up one of these fun spots with your friends, date, or by yourself, if you're feeling extra adventurous:

Deadmonton Haunted House

@lottiemeowwembedded via

We're well into October now, which means that it's officially spooky season! Before you know it, all the houses down your street will be decked out in Halloween attire, and kids will be knocking on your door begging for candy. If you're looking for the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit, we recommend paying a visit to the Deadmonton house. This isn't an average haunted house - it's definitely scarier than anything else, and will have you feeling as though you walked straight onto the set of a horror movie. The house is open until November 5th, and hours vary by day, but you've got plenty of time to check out the house and get your scream on.

Edmonton Ghost Tours

@zabumafu95embedded via

You've probably heard the city of Edmonton be referred to as 'Deadmonton', and if you ask us that name is very fitting, cuz we sure know how to do Halloween right. If ghosts and ghouls are your thing, you have to be sure to check out one of the Edmonton Ghost Tours. There are several adventures to choose from, including the Old Strathcona Ghost Tour, Haunted Trolley Tours, and Haunted Halloween Pub Tours for those of you who like a side of alcohol with your scares! Tickets are just $15 and the tours are being carried out all October long.

Haunted Pumpkin Festival at Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm

@tanamillsembedded via

If you're not one for spending your Halloween getting scared, we recommend you visit the much less spooky Haunted Pumpkin Festival at Prairie Garden Adventure Farms. Open to the public every weekend in October, this is the spot where you can find the perfect pumpkin, check out some live folk music, magicians, drumming circles, and much more. This is the perfect spot to get into the fall spirit and snap some super cute pumpkin photos with your family or your best friend for Instagram.

River Valley Trails

@baileecrookembedded via

If you want one of the BEST fall views that the city has to offer, you'll find it along the River Valley Trails. Although the view is the best before the snow starts to fall, there's something still so magical about looking down on the city while the leaves are changing colour, or even when it's covered in fresh, fluffy snow. If you don't want to walk, you can always rent a Segway from River Valley Adventure Co. and take on the trails that way!

Cat Cafe on Whyte

@maiphammyembedded via

If you ask me, the perfect way to spend a fall day is by sipping on a hot beverage with your best friends, surrounded by loving, fluffy, adorable cats. One of Edmonton's cat cafes, the Cat Cafe on Whyte is home to plenty of sweet cats who will keep you company, cheer you up, and give you all the cuddles you could ask for. After a few hours inside, you'll forget all about the cold weather awaiting you outside and leave feeling totally refreshed - we can't promise that you won't want to leave with a new furry friend though.

Elk Island National Park

@majid.photosembedded via

If you really want to impress a date with a night they'll never forget, we suggest making a drive out to Elk Island National Park to do some stargazing. On a particularly lucky night, the two of you may even be able to spot the absolutely stunning Northern Lights! All you need to bring along with you is a few blankets, a picnic, and a thermos of hot chocolate or pumpkin spice latte to keep you warm and toasty while you admire the view, and your date.

Edmonton Corn Maze

@juliannedegaraembedded via

For many people I know, making a yearly trip out to the Edmonton Corn Maze has become a tradition. Whether you go with your closest friends, your family, or your significant other, it's always a fun experience that gets you right in your fall time feels. Completing the maze takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, but there's plenty of other fun activities for you to check out at the maze, including jumping pillows, farm animals, pedal cars, potato cannons, and much more.

Table Top Cafe

@abigail_dilulloembedded via

In the summer, you and your friends may have spent your weekends tearing up the dancefloor at El Cortez or Knoxville's, but now that it's much colder outside, odds are good you're not in as much of a party mood as you were a few months ago. That doesn't mean you have to curl up inside and hibernate for the fall and winter, though! You and your friends can still hit the town and have fun without having to freeze outside in club attire! Table Top Cafe is the perfect spot to spend a Friday night playing board games, eating snacks, and drinking coffee or wine with your favourite people.

New York Bagel Cafe

@imalyssalauembedded via

Personally, I find that getting out of bed when it's cold outside is one of the most difficult things in the world to do. One thing that makes it a bit easier, though, is knowing I have a warm, delicious breakfast waiting for me. Hit up your best friends right now, and make plans to hit up brunch at the New York Bagel Cafe. Their menu is definitely a bit more pricey than your average brunch spot, but that's simply because this place is anything but average. They've got an abundance of amazing bagels on their menu, including Montreal Smoked Beef, Honey, Almond, and Raisin, and Sundried Tomato and Basil, just to name a few.

We may be getting too old for trick or treating, but that doesn't mean that we're getting too old for fun altogether. If you want to play some games, accompanied by some great music and boozy drinks, we highly recommend you pay a visit to Beercade this autumn! This spot is relatively new to YEG but never fails to impress on a night out with the boys, or the girls. Shoot your shot in a game of skeeball, play some air hockey, or beat the high score on one of the old school pinball machines - whatever your game of choice is, you're sure to have one hell of a time.

Time Escape

@quinnmckinney_embedded via

Over the past few years, escape rooms have become the latest craze all across Canada, popping up in cities everywhere! One of the best ones you'll find here in Edmonton is Time Escape, where you can challenge yourself to five totally unique, totally challenging rooms. You and your friends can band together to escape crazy challenges in Lethal Virus, Spaceship Mysteries, or Time Warp, among others. See which one of you really has the smarts to escape and lead your crew to safety!

Wherever you end up this fall, we hope that it's enjoyable, and memorable for you. With Halloween and Christmas (basically everyone's favourite holidays) right around the corner, there's so much to be excited about, and we want to help you make the most of the coming months. Have fun this fall - you deserve it.
